Traffic forecasts

Weather: According to ARSO, on the night of Wednesday, December 23/24, we can expect northeast winds and bora winds on the Slovenian coast. Precipitation will intensify in some areas, and the snow line will descend.

On Wednesday morning, precipitation will spread over the entire country. In the lowlands inland, it will mostly snow.

On Thursday, it will be mostly cloudy, with light snow showers still occurring occasionally, especially in the eastern half of Slovenia.

There may be restrictions for freight traffic. 


We recommend that drivers monitor not only the traffic forecast but also the weather, and set off earlier than usual.


Drivers are reminded of works and events, as well as restrictions on freight traffic.  


Drivers are advised to:
•    check the current road conditions before travelling at www.promet.si and the app Promet+;
•    plan their travel outside of the expected rush hours, including by checking the traffic calendar;
•    drive carefully and with patience and obey traffic signals on construction sites.

Traffic restriction for trucks with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 7.5 t during the Christmas-New Year holidays, daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.:
- on Thursday and Friday, December 25 and 26, 2025;
- on Sunday, December 28, 2025;
- on Thursday and Friday, January 1 and 2, 2026;
- on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Gradual introduction of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external Schengen border

On 12 October 2025, Slovenia and other EU countries will start implementing the Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external Schengen border, in accordance with Regulations (EU) 2017/2226 and 2025/1534. The new border management system will be introduced gradually, with full implementation by 10 April 2026. More at the source www.police.si.


Change in toll rates for the Karavanke Tunnel and exceptional transports


As of January 1, 2026, the toll for using the Karavanke Tunnel for vehicles with a maximum allowed weight of up to 3.5 tons will increase by 20 cents – from the current €8.80 to €9.00. More at the link dars.si.
