Traffic forecast 4–7 July – latest

High traffic volumes are expected to pass through Slovenia this weekend due to the start of the holiday season in most European countries and the active tourist season.
More traffic and congestion is also expected in Slovenia between 4 and 7 July.

Drivers are reminded of works and events, as well as restrictions on freight traffic. We recommend planning alternative routes.

Major works and the possibility of congestion:
•    A1, Maribor–Ljubljana, between the Dramlje and Slovenske Konjice junctions, traffic will be single lane in both directions until the end of September. The entry to the motorway to Ljubljana at Slovenske Konjice is closed.
•    A2, Obrežje–Ljubljana, between the Trebnje West and Bič junctions, with two narrowed lanes in each direction.
•    A2, Obrežje–Ljubljana, Starine rest area–Novo mesto East junction, traffic will be single lane in each direction.
•    A1, Ljubljana–Koper, Kozina junction–Kastelec tunnel, traffic in two narrowed lanes. The entry to the motorway to Ljubljana at Kastelec is closed.
•    Ljubljana Ring - bypass.

Major events this weekend:

In Laško, the road Laško–Breze–Šentjur will be closed from 5 to 13 July at Trubarjevo nabrežje (festival/event).

The Novo mesto (Revoz)–Metlika main road, between Gornja Težka Voda and Vinja Vas, will be closed on 5 July from 8:00 to 20:00 and on 6 July from 7:00 to 21:00 (mountain speed race).

In Croatia, there will be a concert in Zagreb on Saturday, 5 July . A high number of visitors is expected (500,000).
"Due to some road and bridge closures in the vicinity of the venue and the changed traffic regime in some locations in the Zagreb area, we recommend that drivers plan their journeys in advance and set off on time. Please also bear in mind that car parks and parking spaces may be full.

A MARKED INCREASE IN TRAFFIC TO THE SLOVENIAN AND CROATIAN COASTS IS EXPECTED.
Traffic from Austria to Slovenia will be particularly heavy, both on the Štajerska motorway from Graz and on the Gorenjska motorway from Villach. There will also be congestion on the Ljubljana Ring Road where traffic from both directions merges and continues towards Primorska. Further congestion is expected on the Primorska motorway from Ljubljana to Postojna and on to Istria and the Kvarner Gulf. The border crossing points at Jelšane, Dragonja and Starod will also see an increase in traffic. The Croatian singer's concert in Zagreb on Saturday will also add to the congestion. Due to the expected increase in traffic in the Zagreb area, the Croatian authorities have already advised drivers in transit traffic to use alternative routes through Slovenia.
Drivers are advised to set off as early as possible and keep an eye on traffic conditions.
We recommend that all those travelling to seaside tourist destinations follow the current traffic situation in Slovenia, adjust their route and avoid these sections if possible."

Restrictions on goods traffic:
Until 7 September, a restriction on the movement of goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes during the tourist season will apply:
- on Saturdays from 8:00 to 13:00 and on coastal roads from 6:00 to 16:00;
- on Sundays and public holidays between 8:00 and 22:00.

Drivers are advised to:
•    check the current road conditions before travelling at www.promet.si and the app Promet+;
•    plan their travel outside of the expected rush hours, including by checking the traffic calendar;
•    drive carefully and with patience and obey traffic signals on construction sites.

  • Mondays after 17:00;
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays;
  • Fridays before 11:00 past Ljubljana, and after 21:00 past Ljubljana;
