We are in December. A larger number of events are taking place - outdoor gatherings. Congestion is expected near major shopping centers, city streets, and squares.
Slightly increased traffic is expected on sections where traffic signals have been modified due to roadworks.
While driving, we always maintain an appropriate speed and safe distance.
On Friday and Saturday, 19 and 20 December, increased traffic is expected from Austria towards Croatia, and to some extent also from Italy, due to the start of the holidays in some parts of Germany and Switzerland countries. Among the most congested will be the Ljubljana Ring Road and areas where traffic flow has been changed.
- On Tuesday, Wednesday (December 23, 24) and December 30 and 31 and 3 January 2026, high traffic density is expected around shopping centres. On New Year 2026, mainly at tourist spots and event venues. Rest areas in such areas will also be more crowded.
We would also like to remind you of the restrictions for heavy goods vehicles (HGV) in Slovenia: 25 and 26 December 2025 and 1 and 2 January 2026.
- In the days after New Year 2026, between January 3 and January 7 2026, we expect increased traffic, especially from Croatia to Austria, and to some extent also to Italy.
On Monday and Wednesday, January 5 and 7, we expect a higher density of all traffic, in addition to freight vehicles, and busier rest areas across Slovenia, due to the end of the New Year holidays and the Tuesday holiday in Austria, Italy, Croatia and part of Germany, and the end of holidays in some countries.
Before setting off on your journey, we recommend checking the road conditions in Slovenia and abroad and check rest or parking options.

May the last days and nights of 2025 be as pleasant and safe as possible.
In the New Year 2026, we wish drivers as much health and safe journeys as possible
