Renovations on the motorway network are essential for safe and comfortable travel, but they also bring longer travel times and occasional congestion. At DARS, we strive to ensure that traffic flows as smoothly and safely as possible, even during roadworks. One solution is the introduction of a new informational traffic sign, which we are implementing in roadworks with two narrowed lanes.

The new traffic sign, recently installed on the motorway A2 between Bič and Trebnje, shows drivers how to drive through a section where the two lanes are narrower. The key innovation is the recommendation for staggered driving – similar to a zipper merge. Instead of driving side by side, vehicles should move slightly offset from each other.

This is an informational sign that advises drivers on the safest way to navigate through a roadwork area with two narrowed lanes, while also enabling the highest possible traffic flow.
We urge all road users to drive carefully and attentively through roadworks, especially when overtaking. In areas with two narrowed lanes, freight vehicles must drive exclusively in the right lane, while passenger vehicles no wider than 2 meters may drive and overtake in the left lane.
