After the end of holidays, tourists are expected to return from tourist destinations, especially from Istria, to central Slovenia and further to Austria. Most traffic will be on the Koper-Ljubljana motorway, but traffic will also increase from Novo mesto towards Ljubljana and from the Gruškovje crossing with Croatia to Maribor and further towards Austria. If the Austrian border authorities increase controls, there will be congestion
If the Austrian border authorities increase controls, there will be congestion in front of the Karavanke and Šentilj mountains. The Ljubljana bypass will be heavily loaded.
At least on Monday, 6 May, and probably also on Wednesday, 8 May, the number of trucks will increase on Slovenian motorways.
Shortly after the May holidays, Christian holidays will begin this year, when many European countries have days off and holidays. During this time, we expect increased traffic from abroad, which merges with daily rush hours in Slovenia.
In our experience, this time is one of the busiest in traffic, especially on the roads to Ljubljana and the Ljubljana bypass.
Travel times for commuting to and from work are greatly extended.
Drivers should pay attention to the following dates:
- Thursday, May 9 (Ascension), more traffic will already be on May 8,
- Friday 17 May (Friday before the Pentecost holidays),
- Monday 20 May (Whit Monday)
- Thursday, May 30 (St. the Rescue Body).
Most of these days there are holidays in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Croatia and holidays in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.
During this time, there is also a nautical event in Portorož (16 - 19 May). Therefore, the entire weekend the coastal highway will be heavier than it is already at this time of year, especially in good weather.
