In Austia: on Saturday, May 30, travelers on the Brenner corridor can expect traffic disruptions and longer delays due to demonstrations

Anyone traveling on Saturday, May 30 via the Brenner corridor can expect traffic disruptions, complete standstills, and significant delays. Although the closure of the A13 motorway will only begin around 11 a.m., problems will occur earlier, as traffic jams before and after the closure are unavoidable, according to ASFINAG.

Therefore, based on ASFINAG recommendations, travelers are advised to avoid the Brenner corridor for the entire day.

Heavy congestion is also expected on alternative routes. Other north–south connections, especially the Tauern and Pyhrn motorways, are already heavily congested on such travel days even without additional diverted traffic. In any case, several hours of delays and long waiting times must be expected.

ASFINAG warns of hours-long traffic jams and very heavy traffic on May 30, 2026. High traffic density is expected due to overlapping holiday periods in several German federal states, a public holiday in Italy, and a major event in Innsbruck.

The most affected routes are expected to be the A10 and A9 motorways in the federal states of Carinthia, Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Styria. The Vorarlberg region may also experience significant traffic congestion due to closures and traffic diversions.
“The A13 will be closed from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with several hours of delays and major disruptions expected.”

ASFINAG recommends avoiding travel through Austria on this day or postponing the trip.

Alternative routes via the A10 and A9 will also be heavily congested, with additional delays caused by construction sites and lane reductions.

Some ASFINAG measures include:
• Increased presence of traffic services on the A10 and additional exit restrictions due to congestion.
• Temporary suspension of night closures in the Landeck tunnel to improve traffic flow.
• The Lueg Bridge on the A13 will be open with two lanes from May 29 onward, but heavy congestion is still expected.

Information about closures will be available via the ASFINAG app, websites, and traffic information systems.

Drivers who cannot postpone their trip on May 30 should expect long delays. It is recommended to allow extra travel time, avoid peak hours, ensure a full fuel tank or battery charge, carry enough drinking water, and monitor current traffic updates.
